Indulgence

Iā€™m happiest when I act like a child.

Children possess such a capacity for joy and I try to emulate that in my life and art.

Fused glass, ceramics, and mixed media help me tell the stories of some of my favorite memories, mostly centered around family, friends, and food ā€” but more specifically dessert and sweets.

The art-making process itself is lighthearted. I get to get my hands dirty playing in the mud with ceramics. I pull and twist molten glass into whimsical shapes. And I use materials intended for practical purposes in unconventional ways.

Embracing the materiality of my media, I manipulate the forms to create sculptures of candy, ice cream, and all the things that would spoil your dinner.

The color palette is bright and demands attention. Most of the work is heavily textured, begging your inner child to want to reach out and touch it. The hand-pulled fused glass cane appears to twirl and dance.

I want the viewer to experience a sense of wonder and whimsy and, if only for a moment, feel like a little kid again.
